We can all agree that working hard in the gym is both important and rewarding. But between other commitments (kids, work, family) and our body’s need for rest, every day can’t be a gym day. But remember, skipping the gym doesn’t need to mean sitting on the couch.
Here are the top 5 rest day activities, according to me, myself and I…
Yoga – One of my favorite activities when I am not obsessing over CrossFit. You can literally find yoga studios EVERYWHERE but also can make it up as you go! You can even get your kids involved! Get outside, grab a yoga mat and get in that downward dog!
Take a walk/jog/run – Outside time in Minnesota is as important in the summer as the State Fair. Nothing feels better on a rest day then getting outdoors to breathe in that fresh air. Whether it’s running or walking, a date with mother nature will always make your rest day worthwhile (unless of course it’s raining, then choose something else☺).
The POOL HUNNIES! – We’ve all worked hard in the gym and in the kitchen to get our beach bodies! What better reward than heading to the pool or lake (we have 10,000 of them) to get some much-needed Vitamin D and fun!
Play a ball sport – We may not all be athletically gifted in sports, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun practicing them. Get outside and play ball (basketball, volleyball, baseball, tennis, golf, soccer…) with your friends or kids. Who knows, maybe one day there will be a ball toss in the Open!!!
Gardening – OK, so this doesn’t sound so appealing to some! But on a nice MN day, with the sun shining and birds chirping, there is something invigorating about playing in the dirt, planting some greenery and being productive on your workout day off.
