How long have you been doing CrossFit & How did you get started?
Originally I started Crossfit in 2014 at another box. I decided to give it a try because I liked the personal training aspect and the competitive spirit behind it. I continued until I became pregnant with my second child and decided to take a break. I wasn’t good at regulating my “competitive spirit” and wanted to protect my little one. After having my second child, I decided to cross running a marathon off my bucket list. I also thought I would “become a runner” and I didn’t. I needed something that had a competitive nature and where I was told what to do. I am good at working out, but don’t want to have to think about it! I talked with a friend who had done the bootcamp and loved My Town. I did my intro with Coach Molly and was hooked.
What were your thoughts after starting CrossFit?
At my introduction session, I remember doing the WOD and Molly’s energy and encouragement. I was hooked. The coaches helped me get back into the swing of things and make progress. I was amazed at how quickly the movements came back to me, and with the coaches instruction and tweaks I was able to make progress toward my goals.
What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
I love how everyone comes to CrossFit with their strengths and their weaknesses and fights through them. It encourages me every day. I love the family atmosphere and the friendships I have made! I also love that I don’t have to think about a workout or plan it. I just have a schedule and show up. So many of us are busy being parents, spouses, employees and friends. Our lives are full and this is one place you can come in, turn off your brain and work. No judgements just encouragement.
What is your favorite movement?
The deadlift is my new favorite movement. I really have focused on this movement over the past month and something clicked. I love that I can lift more than I weigh! It is one of those lifts where I just feel like one strong-bad-ass WOMAN!
What are you most proud of since starting CrossFit?
Climbing the Rope! I am so proud of this. I was never able to climb the rope as a kid and hated being one of the few who couldn’t get past the initial jump and swing. At 39 years young, I got my first rope climb!
Have you had any major health/fitness changes worth noting?
I have felt so much stronger mentally and physically since starting CrossFit. Its not only the lifting and cardio that has created an improvement but the family and support. The friendships have been so positive and I love the support and accountability CrossFit provides. This has been such a boost of positivity in my life.
What advice do you have for someone new to CrossFit?
Its easy to say just try it. But for real, it can be intimidating to walk in. BUT, we have all been there. Once you are past the first 5 minutes, everyone will know your name, help you find the weights and the coaches will walk you through all the movements. Everyone has their pace, their PR (personal record) and the time they want to beat. It is your chance to show yourself how strong you are today and then improve every day! Just try it.
